A truly great action book. Full of mystery, magic, fighting, and bravery. Kanvar was born with a deformed arm and leg. When a young boy, his whole world is turned upside down. He finds out his life is not what he thought, and has been lied to his entire life. His mother tries killing him, his brother, and father. His father escapes with his older brother, leaving Kanvar at the mercy of his craxed mother. Miraculously he escapes and spends the next five years as an indentured servant. He dreams for his freedom, and being able to be a dragon hunter. When his chance comes to escape, he takes it, but must battle numerous dragons, the harsh jungle, and even the father he is reunited with. Once again he seeks the truth if his ancestors, and makes decisions that will either bring about peace between the dragon factions, or destroy them. I fell in love with this book and this series, and will be reading the rest of the books. Despite his handicaps, Kanvar lives his life on his terms, fending for himself, fearlessly fighting when he must, and determined to do what is right. a great story about different color dragons fighting each other and about the people that are dragon hunters or riders
Good story, just thought it was a little rushed. But then again it is meant for independent/young adult readers.
I just finished this book within around a week and I have to say it is one of my favorite books. Many books become boring in some spots, but this book keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you want to read more. I especially liked how you come to respect and become connected to the main character, Kanvar. This is a great book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy and adventure.
Could not put the book down. Characters were real and had feelings and attitudes that seemed reasonable. The set up for further adventures were well done and carried through the series, at least the ones I have read so far. Allowing the dragons to be less than perfect and thus allowing the disaffected to bond comfortably with them was an added plus.
It's so rare to have an imaginative story that doesn't devolve into self-loathing or self-indulgence. Good book. Kudos.
Why only a 4? The main character's unresolved fear and hatred of his father, while not unfounded, is too persistent and unexplained.
I didn't think I would like it. I don't do dragons. There was no romance. But I loved it! Such a compelling story! I already got the next one.
I was going to be doing a lot of sitting in airports over the summer and did not want to be bored out of my mind so when I received an email with information about several kindle books being offered for really cheap or free I downloaded every single one to my apple iphone and then the reading began. I read romance after romance and put off reading "Blue Dragon" thinking how awful it was going to be. Little did I know that I saved the best for last. I laughed that a reviewer said it was "wordy". Wordy is what I call the "Harry Potter" series. I am glad Rebecca Shelley wrote it the way she did. I actually read every paragraph because each one was interesting and full of pertinent details and believe me, I am a book skimmer. I actually went on today to order her next book in the dragon series and thought, "I should write a review while I am here", and so I did.
