Buck Cheyne, self-made billionaire entrepreneur, learns that one of his companies is being investigated by the Feds. Under government contract and working out of the top secret Los Alamos facility, others want in on their discovery. It turns out the previously unknown 119th chemical element has powerful curative properties. Some deadly ones, also.

Plagued by horrible nightmares and personally implicated, he stands to lose his wealth and freedom. Because life is spiraling out of control, he retreats to Santa Fe in an attempt to regain perspective. There, he is mysteriously transferred to some other place not of this world and given a message. Buck knows this experience is more than a mental aberration. He becomes convinced Elizabeth Harrington, the manager of the hotel he’s staying in, holds a key to deciphering what it means. She can help find out who is behind destroying him and his company before it’s too late.

Interview with the Author

Q – So, what makes the Thin Places series special?
A – It’s more than just one thing, I think. When I started writing these stories, I wanted to create books that mirrored ones I like to read. My top fiction picks almost always involve strong, well-developed male and female lead characters. And they have to love travel and adventure. A favorite series by a best-selling author involves a billionaire. So, I had to throw that into the mix as well.

Each of the novels involves travel (Santa Fe, Hawaii, Big Bend…). It’s not only the destination, but how they do travel. While I don’t write realism, many of the places my characters visit actually do exist. Get this I had a reader tell me they did the Buck and Liz tour of Santa Fe.

My romantic suspense series…with a touch of fantasy adds the mystical/spiritual dimension, too. Buck’s Irish heritage calls for a bit of Celtic romance and lore. Hence, “thin places” – “locales where the distance between heaven and earth collapses and we’re able to catch glimpses of the divine.”

Overall, the Thin Places books are a great mix of the romance and suspense genres with just enough fantasy to take them to a different level. My desire is to present a more contemporary perspective of classic romance equally balanced with suspense where my readers are entertained and able to enjoy a bit of an escape from all that presses in on any given day.

Q – What order should I read the books in?
A – I’ve written the series so each novel will stand on its own. You can read them in any order you wish. By the time you’re finished, all story threads will wrap up nicely. However, if you wish to read them in order, here is the proper sequence
•Celtic Oak (A prequel available exclusively to my email list)
•Thin Places Santa Fe
•Thin Places Hawaii
•Thin Places Big Bend
•Thin Places Dallas (coming soon)

Q – So, why should readers give these books a try?
A – They’re entertaining with fascinating characters you’ll enjoy getting to know and checking in with from time to time. And the price on Book 1 in the series is just about perfect for a test read.

Thin Places Santa Fe A Romantic Suspense Serieswith a touch of Fantasy Book 1 edition by Ben Coleman Romance eBooks

I really enjoyed this mystery, centered around Buck Cheyne, a talented business owner who's being framed in an attempt to bring down his successful corporations. Lots of intrigue as more and more malicious events occur, with many of them pointing at Buck as the culprit. While Buck's attorneys defend him, his new friend Liz is also supporting him through this mess. Very good character development...Buck, along with Liz, John, Raul, and his staff all come across as decent, likeable people. The book maintains a nice pace, and rarely slows down. And even though I'm hardly old-fashioned, I appreciated that the relationship between Buck and Liz did not culminate by having them jumping into bed on their first date. That was refreshing.

Now, as much as I enjoyed it, there were two things I found slightly off-putting. First, the way Buck handles all of his crises...instead of dealing with these things head on, the way a CEO normally would, he would elect to exercise/get a massage/eat/and take a nap. Had a hard time believing that tactic.

The other minor annoyance (and I say this half-jokingly) was that EVERY SINGLE MEAL of each day was described in great detail! Perhaps the author is (or aspires to be) a chef, but he could have eliminated about 20 pages if the in-depth food descriptions were omitted, or at least truncated. It's a mystery, not a cookbook! ;)

I loved the ending, the way it all wrapped up nicely, although it went by a little too quickly. But despite my miniscule misgivings, I still felt it deserved 5 stars, and would highly recommend this book. Looking forward to reading the next one, Thin Places (Hawaii)!

Thin Places Santa Fe A Romantic Suspense Serieswith a touch of Fantasy Book 1 edition by Ben Coleman Romance eBooks Reviews

An enjoyable read. Along with the plot, I liked the description and details of places in Santa Fe and Dallas. It made you feel as though you were there. Also the details of things like food and beverage and things they do gave personality to the characters of Buck and Liz.
Every time I go to a movie, as I'm watching the previews of "coming attractions" I say to myself, are we really all out of stories to tell?
Ben Coleman is a real storyteller with well thought characters that you care about. He writes with pace, honesty, and in full color. Thin Places teases with the promise of becoming a classic series that will entertain and satisfy for many long flights, sunny poolside afternoons, and sleepless nights to come.
Even though I reviewed the second book in the series first, I really enjoyed the first one, otherwise I wouldn't have moved on to the second. The thing I liked most about "Thin PlacesSanta Fe" was my familiarity with all of the places mentioned in the book. It makes it a lot of fun to read a story when it's easy to imagine yourself in the places where everything is taking place. Ben accomplished this in a big way and I look forward to what he has coming down the pipe.
The first book in this series left me wanting to know Buck Cheyne better. There seems to be more layers to him and I am anticipating the next book revealing another layer or two. There are some unexpected twists and turns I am thinking may reappear in the forthcoming series as they were left up in the air.

Keep writing, looking forward to more adventures with Buck!
It flows very well & captures one's interest to know what is to come. The development of Buck & Liz's relationship is just perfect! Showing each of their perspectives satisfies our curiosities. It's also nice to relate to their friendships & family life.

I wish the bigger events were elaborated on more. I don't want to give them away for the future readers, so I'll just say that when they happened, it was sudden & caught me by surprise. I would like to be able to visualize them more.

I was surprised at the amount of grammatical errors. I was involved in the storyline, so it didn't become that distracting & was still a breezy read.
I enjoyed this. The characters were fully developed and made me care what happened to them. The author showed a great knowledge of the Santa Fe area and brought that southwest flavor to the settings he described.

I could see the main characters continue in a sequel or two with the possibility for several good side stories to be full works on their own.
An interesting paranormal /suspense/ mystery novel. Plot was well thought out and premise interesting.
Over all a good read, I certainly hope it will be continued as I would like to read more.
I would recommend this book, especially to men who would probably like the Alpha Male hero.

However, A few of the sideline characters seemed to be wooden, and the first few pages seemed to be stiff and self conscious, making it slightly difficult to become fully lost in the story, there were too many references to Dallas making it seem slightly `Mary Sue-ish". (I get that it is necessary to provide setting, but it is better to slip it in sideways to be inferred rather than spoon feeding it to reader. But then, that is my highly subjective opinion.)
The overwhelming wealth was off putting, he has his own plane and offhandedly buys a burger ?
Umm, alright.
It did seem as if he was inserting acquaintances into the side characters, I am willing to bet he has a good buddy who is an AF pilot, an old buddy from SMU, ETC.
He reacts oddly under pressure, if he is going to react in such an atypical fashion it would be necessary to provide a solid background to justify it, explain the quirk, otherwise it is baffling and again pulls the reader out of the book to try and figure out WHY someone would act that way.
A good edit could have tightened this up a bit , but still, I have read MUCH worse.
